I have a hunch this might eventually displace Google as a search engine on iOS that is...because it deals directly with information recency and relevance. While Google is moving ads into Gemini, Siri AI will hopefully get rid of them completely.
I dont think this arrangement is what you think it is. This is saying Apple is paying publishers to use their content for Siri AI (for training). Not Apple is paying publishers to get rid of ads, or show the content verbatim to users without ads. That's a separate thing.
> Apple is proposing multiyear agreements where publishers would receive payment when their content is used, which is different from standard AI deals
In the past you could just "take" the content and train, and that's gone now. You have to pay to use the content (and rightfully). Apple is essentially doing that.
Nothing about ads, just exposure to a different way/UX of search: Siri AI replaces Google on all iOS devices. I doubt it will have a major impact initially as most people still use browsers, but maybe slowly it will chip away at mobile traffic when people can just swipe down to ask Siri AI.
I mean this isn’t rocket science. I feel ideas like these are always sitting on the back burner waiting to deploy. The same goes with product features. They know the upside and impact to finances and are just waiting for the right conditions to pull the trigger
